Our Purpose Statement
The purpose of the
Focused and Free is to promote the Christian principles that
the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous originally applied in
their recovery, and to provide support for those who desire to
form Christ-centered recovery groups and/or participate in
meetings based upon those principles.
FOCUSED AND FREE (.com and .org) is
independently owned and operated and is in no way affiliated
with, nor represents, Alcoholics Anonymous or any other 12-step
recovery program - in whole or in part. Nor are we aligned with
any religious sect, denomination, or cult. Just like the
original group that formed in Akron, Ohio, our purpose is to
help those who have a desire to recover from a seemingly
hopeless state of mind and body.
"As iron sharpens
iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs
27:17).
There is nothing more effective than
one-on-one recovery; one addict or alcoholic working with
another. By the same token, "there is only One who has all
power, that One is God". Therefore we feel that by returning to
the original program of recovery that was firmly based upon
Christ-centered, New Testament principles, we not only gain
sobriety, we also discover the greatest treasure of all - a new
life in Christ!
"For what does it
profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his
life?"
(Mark 8:36; cf. Matt 16:26 and Luke 9:25).
Focused and Free, in and of itself, is not
meant to replace or supplant any other 12-Step organization or
program of recovery. Neither do we make any claims as to the
efficacy of the support we offer. We are not professionals in
any sense of the word. We are simply people who have a desire
to work the steps with Christ as our foundation and to share
our experience, strength, and hope in Christ - in a meeting -
without being told that it isn't appropriate or being shunned
because we share the same belief as the founders of
A.A.
IF YOU LONG TO PARTICIAPTE IN 12-STEP
MEETINGS WHERE CHRIST IS THE CORNERSTONE OF RECOVERY, then I
invite you to join with me here in Aurora, Colorado -and all
over the world- to form and sponsor groups comprised of
like-minded people who practice the principles of recovery with
"the Good Shepherd" as the God of our understanding.

So they prayed together, opening their minds to
as much of God as he understood,
removing first the hindrance of self-will,
allowing the Spirit to focus an impression upon
the mind, like light upon a camera. So he said
that he would 'surrender
as much of himself as he could, to as much of
Christ as he understood.'
